We are seeking a Benefits Specialist at our Duncan, Penticton or Langley Regional Office location.
 
This position is integral to the operational and service delivery of all group health benefits programs, retirement plans, and disability leave management processes. With a focus on a holistic health management approach, this position must apply a proactive level of thinking when it comes to health and disability management. Working in collaboration with the Total Rewards and broader People Services team, this position will be key to FW remaining competitive with benefit and retirement plan offerings. Provides input to design, evaluate and implement changes to the benefit programs.
 
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day:
  • Responsible for managing disability leave claims by collaborating with the HR Business Partners, performance leaders, our external service providers and the employee to ensure a smooth process for all involved.
  • Manages the benefits module of PeopleSoft, ensuring accurate set up and data integrity related to benefit plans. Ensures internal and external data and reporting requirements, related to the Central1 interface, are managed and functioning effectively. 3. Annual Benefits Enrolment: Takes a lead role in the annual flexible benefits enrolment process, including plan design changes, required system updates, benefits communications, informational meetings and other benefit related events.
  • Completes benefit and retirement plan surveys. Researches market trends and best practices, analyses summary results and makes appropriate recommendations. 5. Benefit & Pension Administration: Knowledgeable and current on policies and procedures relating to benefit and pension administration; identify areas requiring clarification and/or improvement.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless internal member service.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
  • Certificate or Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
  • 3 years’ experience in Human Resources, with experience in disability management, benefit and retirement plan administration.
  • Experience with a large-scale HRIS systems is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, with superior skills in Excel
  • Creative and analytical thinker with initiative to resolve problems and handle through to conclusion.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy focused including excellent problem solving, analytical and research skills in order to gather information from various sources.
  • Proven organizational skills, including balancing multiple responsibilities and effectively meeting deadlines.

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
  • Certificate or Diploma in in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of three years experience in Human Resources, with demonstrated knowledge in disability management, benefit and retirement plan administration.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, with advanced skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP, etc. is considered an asset.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy focused including excellent problem solving, analytical and research skills in order to gather information from various sources.
  • Proven organizational skills, including balancing multiple responsibilities and effectively meeting deadlines.
  • Creative and analytical thinker with initiative to resolve problems and handle through to conclusion.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changing business conditions.
  • Display a high degree of confidentiality and professional judgement; must exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with both internal and external contacts.
  • Exhibits a positive, friendly manner and customer service approach, dealing with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity.
