We are seeking a Life Insurance Specialist to join our team.
This role provides professional Life Insurance planning services, support, advice and assistance to members on their Life Insurance needs.  Receives referrals from branch personnel and Wealth Management team members for member/clients Life Insurance needs analysis and provides the appropriate life insurance policies.  Pro-actively seeks business development opportunities to promote growth of existing/new member/clients Life Insurance needs and promotes other credit union and credit union subsidiary products and services.  Provides mentoring to Credit Union staff and subsidiaries staff.  Provides leadership and coaching to the Investment Services Assistant and conducts quarterly and annual coaching and review sessions within corporate standards.
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day:
Key Accountabilities:
  • Establishes and maintains relationship with existing members; actively pursues business development opportunities; networks with external business organizations in the community to generate referrals; pursues relationships with potential new members and actively promotes the full range of FW products and services through participation in community initiatives and events.
  • Provides insurance advice to high value current and potential members, analyzes member data on income, assets, liabilities and wealth transfer objectives, identifies needs and provides appropriate insurance vehicles or refers to product specialist within other FW lines of business; seeks opportunities to assist members in consolidating their financial assets with First West; conducts follow-up interviews with members on at least a bi-annual basis to identify changes in circumstances that would require alternate insurance option.
  • Provides advise and acts in accordance with ethical standards, Life Insurance Council of BC policies and applicable regulatory requirements, ensuring that risk to the member and First West are minimized; maintains compliance with First West audit and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Builds relationship with branch employees and provides subject matter expertise and/or mentoring when required; schedules and facilitates product knowledge sessions with members and/or branch employees; provides input into the performance evaluation for assigned support staff.
  • Processes applications; conducts follow-up discussions with insurance vendors and/or contractors and/or medical professionals, as required, to assist with the processing of applications; sets up and maintains accurate member files.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications: 
  • Must hold a level II Life Insurance License.
  • Minimum of three years experience within the industry.
  • Complete the CLU designation within two years from the date of hire.
  • In addition completion of Certified Financial Planner or equivalent recognized accreditation program within an agreed upon time frame depending on when the CLU accreditation is acquired.
  • Must meet all regulatory requirements re: continuing education credits, credit worthiness to hold the position and no compliance errors or complaints.
