We are seeking a Life and Living Benefit Insurance Specialist to join our team providing support to our members in Mill Bay and Duncan as well as South Island as required.
This role provides professional Insurance planning services, support, advice and assistance to retail and business members on their Life Insurance and Living Benefits needs through a comprehensive needs based approach. The focus is on members through financial planning, insurance needs analysis and providing the appropriate insurance solutions; proactively growing the insurance portfolio by developing business contacts and through referrals from internal business partners in Wealth, Insurance, Commercial and Retail banking;  mentoring to Credit Union staff and stakeholders on the features and benefits of risk management through insurance. 
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day:
Key Accountabilities:
  • Establishes and maintains relationship with existing members; actively pursues business development opportunities; networks with external business organizations in the community to generate referrals; pursues relationships with potential new members and actively promotes the full range of FW products and services through participation in community initiatives and events.
  • Provides insurance advice to high value current and potential members, analyzes member data on income, assets, liabilities and wealth transfer objectives, identifies needs and provides appropriate insurance vehicles or refers to product specialist within other FW lines of business; seeks opportunities to assist members in consolidating their financial assets with First West; conducts follow-up interviews with members to identify changes in circumstances that would require alternate insurance options.
  • Provides insurance advice to current and potential business members, analyzes business financial statements and provides appropriate solutions to sophisticated business owners for comprehensive succession planning strategies, buy/sell agreements, key man insurance and employee benefits 
  • Builds relationship with branch employees and provides subject matter expertise and/or mentoring when required; schedules and facilitates product knowledge sessions with members and/or branch employees.
  • Processes applications; conducts follow-up discussions with insurance vendors and/or contractors and/or medical professionals, as required, to assist with the processing of applications; sets up and maintains accurate member files.
  • Provides advice and acts in accordance with ethical standards, Life Insurance Council of BC policies and applicable regulatory requirements; ensures that the risk to the member and FW are minimized; maintains compliance with FW audit and risk management policies and procedures
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications: 
  • LLQP
  • Must hold Life, Accident & Sickness Insurance License valid with in BC.
  • Minimum of three years experience within the industry.
  • Familiarity with business financial statements and the ability to provide solutions to business owners
  • CLU designation or completion within two years from the date of hire.
  • Certified Financial Planner or completion within an agreed upon time frame depending on when the CLU accreditation is acquired.
  • Must meet all regulatory requirements re: continuing education credits, credit worthiness to hold the position and no compliance errors or complaints.
